Montessori at Home

Now that Love Bug is 19 months old (and a little rascal who gets into everything) I am trying to come up with ideas of activities, games, and outings that will follow the Montessori
style of education.
For those not familiar with Montessori, here is a brief description:

"A method of educating young children that stresses development of a child's own initiative and natural abilities, especially through practical play."

Named after Maria Montessori, a physician and educator, this method encourages independence, curious exploration, and self-expression. This style of learning fits very well with our hands-on, attachment parenting style of living and is something that we have started to encourage at home but have not fully engaged her in.

here is one of my first attempts at sensory stimulation. I purchased a big bag of rice and filled a bin up for her. Of course, all she wanted to do was throw it on the ground but I let her have fun with it and just PLAY!

Here are a couple of activities that are simple yet stimulating for growing minds. I am planning on picking up the stuff I need this weekend to set up her little classroom area better (she currently has lots of books and art supplies kind of strewn about.)

how cool and simple is this? just have to pick up some pipe cleaners

another great idea! I love that I can make up all these cool activities with things we have laying around the house.

MUST make this ASAP!

Happy 2013! holy cow, it has been almost exactly ONE year since the last time I blogged. I know, LAME! I want to make blogging a weekly (or bi-weekly but I'm getting ahead of myself here) occurrence. I want to be able to REMEMBER all the cool things I make and yummy things I cook and beautiful moments shared with my family and I think this will be a great outlet to do that. I don't expect anyone to read it or comment or even care but maybe ten years from now I will look back and relive some great memories. Enjoy!

Happy Monday!

So after a rough start to the day, I am looking forward to heading home and making delicious burritos for dinner! I will post pictures and the recipe if they are a hit :)

Welcome!

Ok, so this is like the THIRD time I try to get a blog going. I am really hoping on being able to keep up with it. My main intention is sharing musings of my new life as a mother and our new life as parents, as well as our attempts at green living-hence the name, The Green Beehive. This year my goal is to live as cleanly as possible, to eat healthy and live a sustainable life. To raise Olivia in a wholesome household, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The Green is for our goal of living a healthy lifestyle. The Beehive is for our love of honey (lol!) as well as my own personal thought of a beehive as a close space full of interaction and work towards a common goal. I want to strive for my family life, my household, to be like a beehive, where we all cooperate and help each other out. Welcome to our blog!
