Now that Love Bug is 19 months old (and a little rascal who gets into everything) I am trying to come up with ideas of activities, games, and outings that will follow the Montessori
style of education.
For those not familiar with Montessori, here is a brief description:
"A method of educating young children that stresses development of a child's own initiative and natural abilities, especially through practical play."
Named after Maria Montessori, a physician and educator, this method encourages independence, curious exploration, and self-expression. This style of learning fits very well with our hands-on, attachment parenting style of living and is something that we have started to encourage at home but have not fully engaged her in.
here is one of my first attempts at sensory stimulation. I purchased a big bag of rice and filled a bin up for her. Of course, all she wanted to do was throw it on the ground but I let her have fun with it and just PLAY!
Here are a couple of activities that are simple yet stimulating for growing minds. I am planning on picking up the stuff I need this weekend to set up her little classroom area better (she currently has lots of books and art supplies kind of strewn about.)
how cool and simple is this? just have to pick up some pipe cleaners
another great idea! I love that I can make up all these cool activities with things we have laying around the house.
MUST make this ASAP!
